2035: The Year The Math Glass Ceiling Breaks For The Malay-Muslim Community
Assalamualaikum brothers and sisters.
If you do not already know, the Malay-Muslim community of Singapore is under-performing at the subject of Mathematics. This gap between our community and the other ethnic communities has existed since the PSLE began in 1960. We improved in our scores until about the mid 1990s, and then for some mysterious reason, we stagnated at the plateau of producing a pass rate of about 60% at Standard Math. For the last 20 years, we have not shown any improvement. We at ZoomTuition.SG believe that the performance gap can be bridged. We have set 2035 as the year when we will no longer lag behind the other communities in the subject of Mathematics at PSLE level.
This is the first phase of our programme, which for the year 2024, will be an online programme. It is our plan to organise face-to-face classes, which may begin in 2025 or 2026. Although the catalyst for this initiative was triggered by our under-performance at Mathematics, we have noticed the mastery of the Malay language slipping from the hands of our youth. This, though a natural phenomenon in Singapore, must be addressed before it is too late. To arrest this issue holistically, face-to-face classes are necessary. However, for now, we will provide tuition classes online for Mathematics, Malay, Science and English.
